QUESTION:
It seems like Japan does not have many female Japanese employees in administrative positions. Do they not make good job candidates?
REPLY:
Although Japan has anti-discrimination legislation for female employees, the country still has traditional views towards women. Women are usually not granted top management positions and they often leave their jobs after having children. However, career-focused women make excellent job candidates. Women in Japan often prefer to work at foreign companies, because they usually feel that there are better and fairer opportunities there.
