As of October 2010, Singapore has significantly strengthened its permanent residency requirements. To become a permanent resident in Singapore, you must have a specific income level and must be categorized under a particular employment category (e.g. investor, skilled worker, entrepreneur, etc.). Your income level has to be relatively high and you must fulfill the criteria set for your employment category. The criteria are often quite high, and many foreign workers have trouble meeting them.
