This is a new role in a new Footwear Engineering function.  The new organization is the Industrial & Mechanical Engineering team.  The primary roles for this new global team are:

  • Define Specifications and tolerances for key conventional manufacturing equipment used to make Nike footwear.
  • Work with Innovation to define manufacturing equipment specifications for new footwear manufacturing technologies as they are defined and implemented.
  • Develop and roll out new instrumentation for measuring/controlling the consistency of manufacturing operations.
  • Standardize the implementation of factory consistency tools on a global basis.
  • Develop new product performance test equipment.

 

Key Accountabilities for the Advanced Industrial & Mechanical Engineer role:

  • Work with the Innovation team to define manufacturing equipment specifications and tolerances for new shoe making technologies.
  • Work with Nike Engineering, Category, and Manufacturing teams to identify standardization and consistency improvement opportunities for key footwear production processes. 
  • Define appropriate manufacturing equipment suppliers who can provide service and support on a global basis for the roll-out of new shoe making technologies.
  • Research and evaluate new instrumentation technologies to identify tools to monitor and control manufacturing processes.
  • Manage projects to design, develop and/or purchase new manufacturing equipment and instrumentation tools to assure consistent footwear manufacturing on a global basis.
  • Drive the implementation of new process consistency tools in factories by working with factory teams and Nike representatives in production countries.
  • Design and implement new product performance test equipment.
  • Continuously learn about new footwear manufacturing equipment.

 

Qualifications:

  • B.S.  Degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering with 5 yrs. relevant work experience
  • Project management experience required, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with defining equipment performance specifications and tolerances
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills (in English) required
  • Experience negotiating with equipment suppliers (price, delivery & on-going service) desired
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural team desired
  • Ability to travel internationally
