Thailand’s workforce is huge, with almost 50 million workers in a population of 61 million. With slight economic recovery from the Asia Financial Crisis (AFC) and the Thai government’s growing openness to foreign investment, foreign companies will find Thailand a place with growing opportunities to do business. Foreign companies can recruit local employees, Thai returnees, or even expatriates. Multinational corporations looking to recruit in Thailand will have to be familiar with major legal matters, such as the Labor Protection Act and the Labor Relations Act. This article further discusses important Thai human resource issues with an emphasis on labor trends, wages, benefits, legalities, terminations, leave time, and retaining Thai employees, among other useful topics.
